Robust Design
The First difference you may notice with the new design are the lack of primary colours! The Babyface Pro means business; the chassis is precision crafted from a block of Aluminium, fully protecting the delicate and high quality components within.
RME have also come up with a completely new XLR socket design that is able to integrate seamlessly into the housing without taking up too much space. This means that you still have a compact interface and no longer have to mess around with breakout cables; just plug your instruments and microphones straight into the interface itself and start recording. Sleek and simple!
Connectivity
Talking of functionality, The Babyface Pro has a comprehensive feature set and top quality internals that deliver when you need that fantastic recording.
The microphones are fed through two digitally controlled preamps with individually switchable phantom power. These brand new circuits can offer incremental gain of up to 70dB and a relay driven PAD. As a result, you're covered in every situation. If you're recording with low level microphones, you can turn the gain up without experiencing massive problems with background noise, and if you are recording something really loud, you can protect your take with in-built line overload protection.
The two headphone outputs offer both TRS and mini-jack sockets in parallel are designed with completely different design stages to perfectly match low and high impedance headphones, so you'll always get the best sound no matter what cans you're using.
It's not just about the mic inputs though, You can plug any instrument, line or high impedance, into Babyface Pro’s jack inputs 3 & 4. There's also plenty of expandability with an optical TOSLINK I/O you can use as either an ADAT port with SMUX support or SPDIF for sessions up to 192 kHz. In combination with an external ADAT converter, the Babyface Pro fully supports up to 12 analog inputs and 12 outputs, making it ideal for both live and studio multi-track applications. A handy addition that's not always included with other compact interfaces is MIDI I/O; available via an included breakout cable if you've got old gear you need to plug in or you've run out of USB inputs!
Superior Mix Control
Another major upgrade from the original interface, the babyface pro combines the regular buttons and jog wheel with a brand new input level display and a number of new handy buttons to help you navigate the different functions easily. This is combined with RME's own TotalMix FX software that gives you full control of your mixes before they reach your DAW, allowing you to select different settings for your session
